Born: October 3, 1973 in Honolulu Hawaii
Keiko began acting when she was ten, mostly because she wasn't athletic enough to play sports. She decided to continue as long as it was fun. That was more than a decade ago. Acting is still fun, and she's still acting, most recently as 'Lane Kim' on the WB crtic pleaser "Gilmore Girls".* As Rory Gilmore's brainy and somewhat eccentric best friend, Keiko recently garnered the Ammy Award for Best Female Actor in a television production. The Ammy Awards honor Asians and Asian American achievement in film and television and she was nominated in the company of Lucy Liu ("Ally McBeal"), Ming-Na ("ER") and Tia Carrere ("Relic Hunter").
Keiko will co-star in the movie "Beauty Shop" with Mo'Nique Imes-Jackson(The Parkers), Kellita Smith (Bernie Mac Show), and Taraji P. Henson(Baby Boy). A Magic Johnson production, for release this year. Before landing her role on "Gilmore Girls", Keiko was no stranger to television. She had appeared in a recurring role on the WB's "Felicity" as well as guest-starred on such programs as "Beverly Hills 90210", "ER", "Sister, Sister" and "Renegade". Additionally she appeared in the made-for-TV-movie "Terror in the Shadows", as well as the independent feature "Hundred Percent". Other films include the romantic lead in "Red Thread" and recently Keiko took on the challenging role of a young womanstruggling with anorexia nervosa in Lifetime's "Strong Medicine", as well as guest star in Nickelodeon's "Nightmare Room".
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Keiko began her acting career in the theatre there and continued at the Performing Arts school now known as Mid - Pacific School of the Arts. As a student she was able to meet President Bush, as one of only four actors nationwide chosen as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
Soon after graduation, Keiko relocated to Los Angeles and has been working steadily in theatre, television and film since her arrival. She was a member of the Meisner based ITC ensemble, TPA ensemble, "hereandnow" and continues to study improv with former "hereandnow" member Jason Fong.
When not working on her career, Keiko relishes in her new found love of drumming, renovating her home, plays with the theories of yoga and watches endless sitcom re-runs. She also spends a great deal of time eating with friends, addictively playing the card game "pounce" and the computer game "civilizations", slaves away at Blacklava Clothing Company shops, and avoids updating her website.
